With this guide, it's quick and easy to get started with creating and managing your categories and products in Shopbox.
You can create categories and products both in the back office (my.shopbox.com) and directly on the register (Shopbox POS). The creation process is identical, but the access points vary.
To optimize product management, you can also use features like variants, modifiers, and menus. It's recommended to review these features before creating products.
Create categories and products on Shopbox POS
- Navigate to the home screen in Shopbox POS.
- Click “Edit” on the right side.
- Choose what you want to create:
- New category
- New product
- New modifier
- New menu
Create categories and products in Back Office
- Go to the menu “Product Catalog” → “Products.”
- Click the “+” button in the top-right corner.
- Choose what you want to create:
- Category
- Product
Creating a category
Before creating a product, you must create a category.
Mandatory field:
- Category name: Must be unique (no duplicates in the system).
Optional fields:
- Image: Upload an image for the category.
- Color: Select a color for the category.
- Placement: Choose where the category should appear:
- Homepage: The main screen.
- Inside another category: Makes the category a submenu.
- Account number and name: Only relevant without ERP integration.
Finish by clicking “SAVE” in the top-right corner.
Creating a product
Mandatory fields:
- Product name: Displayed on the register.
- Official name: Displayed on receipts and in reports.
- Category: Select the category where the product will be placed.
- Price: Enter the price (incl. VAT).
Note: When the product name is entered, it is automatically copied to “Official Name” and “Printer Name” unless changed.
Optional fields:
- Printer name: Displayed on kitchen/bar/order prints.
- Purchase price:
- The cost price of the product.
- If entered, you can calculate your profit margin in Shopbox.
- Enables accurate use of the “Coverage” function on the register.
- Usually entered excluding VAT.
- Unit: Useful for products sold by weight or similar. When a unit is added, the system asks how much of that unit is sold when the product is selected on the register.
- Tax group:
- Defaulted to 25% VAT if only one tax group exists.
- For multiple tax groups, ensure the product has the correct group assigned.
- Discount blocked: If enabled, discounts cannot be applied to the product.
- Apply prices to variants: Automatically applies the main product's price to all variants if enabled.
- SKU code:
- A product code used for searching in the system.
- Must be unique; duplicate product codes are not allowed.
- Barcode:
- The system uses EAN-13.
- If a scanner is used, scanning the product barcode will add it to the cart.
- Inventory: Enter stock quantities during product creation.
- Description: Accessible via a long press on the register.
Finish by clicking “SAVE” in the top-right corner.
